Starcom’s distributor tackles the “Fuel Control” challenge Head-on!

$

Fuel is today’s largest expense for running a vehicle, making it one of the largest expenditures for operating a vehicle fleet. The escalating fuel pricing poses fleet managers with the challenge of managing their driver usage of fuel more carefully and effectively.

Starcom’s longtime Panamanian partner, Mr. Juan Tarté of Intelisoft Panama, tackled this challenge and came up with a simple yet brilliant idea for tracking and managing fuel consumption.   He discovered that a simple integration between Starcom’s Helios Advanced Plus unit and its Dallas Set makes the perfect solution for fuel distribution control.

The combination results in a cost-effective, smart tank gauging solution, enabling companies and fleet managers to efficiently manage and control fuel distribution and inventory and to minimize the risk of fuel theft or excessive consumption.

How does it work?

A Dallas socket is installed on every fuel pump in the perimeter, while the Dallas Button (vehicle identifier) installed in the vehicle, is used to activate the fuel pump and enable the fueling by connecting it to the Dallas socket. An exact fuel level reading is achieved by using the pulse reader integrated at the Helios Advanced Plus (used as an Odometer) connected to the Fuel Pulsometer.

The installed unit communicates with the fuel pump, records the data of the vehicle and the fuel level received, and disables the fuel pump in case the vehicle is out of the permitted unloading zone or if the engine is on.

Reports generated by this fuel management system enable fleet managers to effectively oversee their fuel distribution fleet, control operating hours per vehicle, allocate fuel expenses for job costing and improve driver accountability.

Ultimately, this intelligent integration has been specifically designed to meet the needs of any fleet manager, who is on the lookout to reduce fuel consumption by their drivers and consequently cut back on costs.

Now you can reach new customers or present your existing customers with this innovation and offer these benefits!

Helios Hybrid- continuous performance even in areas without cellular coverage

Starcom Systems is pleased to present the recent advances in our tracking and fleet management systems: The Helios Hybrid- an innovative integration between the Helios GSM/HSPA vehicle location unit and an Iridium satellite module.
This advanced system, whose core function is based on the proven reliability and stability of the Helios Advanced unit, will enable the Hybrid tracking unit to provide real-time tracking, monitoring and management in areas without cellular coverage.
The Hybrid unit incorporates an Iridium satellite module that maintains a persistent coverage, granting  real-time data transmission virtually anywhere on the planet. You can set the type of events for immediate transmission or log data until cellular coverage is accessible, which allows for communication cost reduction.
This smart solution effectively utilizes all available communication network resources, whether cellular or satellite. The system will choose the available network, or may even utilize both, enabling lower transmission costs compared to using only satellite transmission.
Without dependence on mobile communication, the hybrid tracking system works anywhere on the globe. This makes it the ideal real-time tracking system for areas that are out of cellular coverage, such as at sea or in the desert. The system is also designed to meet the special requirements of mining or construction sites, and for the monitoring of assets and people in the remotest of areas.
The Hybrid system provides continuous and reliable real- time transmission, enabling effective management and real-time response.

Helios TT implemented for fleet management,  security and protection purposes.

Starcom Systems is proud to announce new partnerships!
The first is the  signing of a supply and support agreement with one of the biggest motorcycle importers, for the implementation of the Helios TT in their security projects.  Since tampering and theft is a major concern for the on-road motorcycle fleetthe importer is collaborating with a Recovery Control Centre, to which real-time alerts will be sent. The Helios TT lends itself uniquely to this application as it can detect a tow alert by recording the cellular antennas in its vicinity.
The second  agreement was signed with an additional motorcycles’ provider, aiming to implement the Helios TT in delivery motorcycles, for fleet management purposes. In this case, the alert will be sent directly to the motorcycles owner, without operating a recovery control centre.

Starcom Online- Major improvements to the reports system

Starcom Systems is happy to present major software improvements to the Starcom Online

Starcom Systems upgrades its Online Application with two important enhancements to the columns selection and map routes.

After a great deal of work by our development team, we have created a more flexible and agile reporting system, with an objective to meet the unique information needs and requirements of our users.  Customers can now build a system to suit their own needs and will receive detailed reports based on their own custom selections.

Rapid, Customizable and Clearer reports

The new improved columns selection allows the user to select specific columns that will appear on their final reports. Now, our customers can custom-make their own reports and create reports that have never existed on the system before! The system will also keep preferred selections in its memory, for future purposes. These new reports will be produced more rapidly and have been designed to be visually clearer and more comprehensive. We plan to keep improving this feature and will be introducing new and exciting upgrades in this direction!

Interactive map routes

The map routes are now more interactive and graphically friendly.
They appear with arrows that show the direction of movement, making the routes more comprehensible than ever before! In addition, a simple click on any of the arrows, will trigger a popup box with precise information of the unit’s location.
Each and every event point on the map is clickable, and redirects the user to the relevant line in the report and vice versa.

Starcom Systems web development team will continue to dedicate itself to providing the best online experience for all of its customers during 2014.

Helios TT: Track & Trace System Recovers $50,000 worth of stolen motorbikes

heliosTT-27may-security-for-motor-delivery-fleet

In the January issue of Starcom’s monthly newsletter, we introduced you to the Helios TT and its unique capability to track, trace and protect both private motorcycles and fleets of delivery scooters.

In this issue, we bring you the real stories behind the scenes, giving you a sneak peek into the work of a motorcycle operational recovery centre.
As mentioned previously, a Recovery Control Centre was established, utilizing the Helios TT (Track & Trace) to send real-time alerts in cases of tampering, movement or impact brought upon the motorcycles.
Thanks to the Helios TT, thieves were tracked and a brand new Suzuki DL 650 was recovered.
During early May, a brand new Suzuki DL 650 was stolen at 2.30 AM. Both the owners and the Recovery Control Centre received an online alert, enabling the Control Centre to immediately send out a skilled task force to retrieve the motorcycle and bring it back, intact, to its lawful owners. The Helios TT- Motorcycles Tracking System that had been installed in the vehicle enabled both the Control Centre staff, as well as the owner, to accurately track the stolen motorcycle’s movement in real time throughout the entire chase until its capture by the field team. The motorcycle was brought back to the owners with only a minor scratch on it.

Stolen delivery scooter recovered and brought back to work within 1 hour

On Feb 19th a Kymco Movie 125 scooter owned by a delivery company was stolen.
The Recovery Control Centre was alerted in real time, allowing them to react instantly by sending out the operational recovery team that located the scooter and brought it back, with a minimal amount of damage to the scooter.
The scooter was tracked on a private premises, obligating the force to report the incident to the police in order to step in legally and retrieve the scooter.
Once the scooter was retrieved by the police, it was brought back to the delivery company’s owner unscathed, which enabled him to bring it back to work on the field in no time.
The theft, which could have resulted in a great loss, had it not been equipped with the Helios TT, ended happily with minimum efforts and losses.

The Helios TT was also fitted in an ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) that was stolen by being uploaded onto a trailer, without the switch having been turned on.
The Helios TT which can work where other devices cannot, identified the movement and the location of the ATV by recording the cellular antennas in its vicinity. A real-time alert was sent to the centre, which meant that once again there was no escape and the ATV was retrieved.

Other equally important aspect of the Helios TT is the protection of the driver. In cases of real time alerts raised by an impact or an accident, the Control Centre is able to contact the driver to check up on the situation. If the centre fails to establish contact, they are guided to promptly send out an ambulance to the exact location of the unit, saving time that could be crucial in saving the life of the driver.
These are only two out of the many success stories of the Helios TT motorcycles recovery system, proving that Helios TT will always keep guard of both driver and the vehicle.
Another implementation examples of the Helios TT include an electric buggy for the elderly, a golf-course, and a Campervan.

Triton Container Locator Helps Reduce Your Insurance Premiums and Cuts Damage Costs

$
0
0

Today, more than 80% of international trading is carried by sea. By the end of 2011, there were approximately 20 million cargo containers worldwide. The total number of lost container goods, owing to theft, piracy, accident or damage was estimated at 35 billion US$ annually, and is rising. Real Time remote tracking and monitoring solutions can provide online information about the most recent container location and status, helping you to prevent such events from occurring, and will provide you the actionable information you need to minimize damage costs (and thus reduce insurance premiums)1.
Triton uses the most advanced GPS technology available today, designed for the purpose of containers’ controlling and monitoring, so that the most reliable and efficient delivery, from origin to destination, is made possible. Triton raises alerts on various situations such as: door opening, breaking-in through side walls or possible forcing of the door, container tilt / fall / impact and more.

Triton alerts highly sensitive security merchandise damaged while unloading at port

One month after a container, transporting millions of dollars’ worth of sensitive equipment, left the Port of Shanghai, with the Triton device installed on its door, an alert was raised and received signifying that the container had suffered a strong impact, followed by another alert a few seconds later indicating a secondary minor impact. Simultaneously, the GPS receiver turned itself on and provided the precise location of the container. Apparently, the container was hit and damaged by another container that was accidently dropped from the crane while unloading on deck, causing a tearing of the tin on the top wall of the container and penetration of water which ruined the merchandise.

On-Line Information, On-Time Action

With thanks to the online information that was received from the Triton container tracking system, stakeholders were able to quickly take action and redirect supplies in order to minimize possible critical implications of the occasion on the supply chain. Triton allows you to manage those unforeseen events, and will assist in determining responsibility for any damage caused.
Information received from the Triton unit continuously reaches a dedicated control centre, (in this case – ContGuard), manned by skilled professionals trained to attend to all kinds of emergencies as well as routine procedures, in complete cooperation with the end customer and their business protocols.

Reliable Reporting System = Effective Supply Chain
Triton can make a supply chain more efficient while containers travel through several docking points.

This case concerns container owners who would normally come across some problems with tracking the location of their containers and receiving reliable data during lengthy journeys.
This was also the case for one of ContGuard’s clients, one of West Africa’s biggest entrepreneurs in power plant development, who is dependent on a continuous transportation of supplies throughout the continent. The data previously received from different stopping points en route were unreliable and inaccurate, which had severe implications along the supply chain, as they were totally dependent on the arrival of the containers as scheduled, for a continuous flow of work. Now, with the Triton Containers Tracking device installed, information is continuously forwarded to ContGuard’s control centre, as well as to the containers’ owner. Vital information is transferred in real time, and their status at any given moment, which means that Triton enables all those involved in the supply chain to have a true understanding of what is happening – as and when it happens! This case is an excellent example of how Triton lives up to its name in preventing supply chain disruptions.

Theft of cigarette containers reduced with thanks to Triton

The Triton system is designed to provide preventive security: a renowned cigarette company transporting millions of dollars’ worth of merchandise around the world became accustomed to theft from its containers in different docking stations. Once the Triton system was installed the scope of thefts decreased significantly. This was made possible due to real time information received automatically from the Triton Container Monitoring System to Contguard’s Control centre, who are guided to immediately connect to the police in any case of an emergency.

Worry less with New Asset/People Locator that is small in size but big in innovation!

Meet Kylos Compact, the newest innovation from Starcom Systems; the small, concealable and portable unit that keeps guard of your assets and your loved ones.

Manage your time more efficiently and free your mind of worries.
We each wear many hats during the day; we are business owners, worried about protecting our business assets, our merchandise or our valuable parcels shipped throughout the world. We are also individuals, worried about a family member: an aging parent, our child or even our pet.
The device that grants you asset protection, whether business or personal and protects your loved ones from a distance, while allowing you to stick to your daily routines without being preoccupied with these concerns anymore.

Manage your employees and take care of your loved ones with minimal interference.
Do you want to know if your elderly parent has left the house and are making their way to a scheduled doctor appointment? Simply equip them with the Kylos Compact, used also as a Personal Locator, and set their schedule into the Online application. That way, you can have a peace of mind, knowing that in any case of a discrepancy, the system will notify you immediately.  The same goes for your field employees, children and pets. Not only can you keep track of their location, but you can also be certain that in any case of distress caused by an impact or in an event of emergency, the system will notify you in real time.

Save time and money locating your merchandise
The Kylos Compact unit can also be used to track merchandise as it moves from one location to another, regardless of distance or transportation method. Being a small and portable unit that doesn’t require an external connection to a power source, the Kylos Compact Asset Tracker can be placed (and hidden) in any suitcase, box or container, monitoring its location, condition (including environmental condition – such as temperature monitoring) and even the angle in which they were placed throughout its entire journey. This helps you to save unnecessary time and money trying to recover your goods in case of theft or damage. As an example, medical syringes that were placed upside down or in a temperature condition that deviates from the pre-set temperature range, will activate the Kylos Compact device and trigger an alert in real time so that  such issues can be attended to quickly and possible loss or damage to merchandise is prevented.

The Kylos Compact Asset/People Locator is a small and smart unit, another innovation from the Starcom Systems’ line of automatic location and management systems.

Creative solutions by Helios

Banner Helios creative final

Starcom’s Newsletter released in February presented the brilliant idea of one of our customer’s (Eng. Juan Tarté of Intelisoft Panama) for fuel management and monitoring, by combining the Helios Advanced unit with the Dallas identification key. In this month’s issue we share with you more creative solutions for monitoring, controlling and management, using the Helios Advanced unit.

Vehicle door won’t open until the Helios says so – Helios helps you keep peace of mind by controlling who has access to your cargo and merchandise

Helios has been successfully applied for the controlled passage of goods in Mexico. The unit is connected to the doors of the cargo trailer, preventing an unauthorized opening (even by the driver).

Helios “permits” the opening of the doors either to authorized identification key holders, or when sending a command to the control centre. This implementation is the ideal solution for theft prevention of cargo during its transportation, giving you peace of mind knowing that your cargo is fully secured from departure to arrival. The solution can also be implemented for access management of warehouses.

Helios keeps the whole village running

A village in Brazil is dependent on several generators for power supply to the entire village. Once the oil pressure in the generators drops below the allowed level, the generators can burn out, leaving the entire village in the dark. When connected to the generators, Helios constantly monitors the oil pressure in the generators, sending real time alerts in case there is a drop in the level of pressure. Automatic alerts in a timely manner about any oil pressure drops will prevent burning, and saves costs caused by power failure in the village.

Helios = Remote Control?

Yes indeed. The Helios can even be used to remotely control any kind of machine. Once the Helios unit is connected, it can be used to send “over the air” commands to automatically turn on or switch off a machine.

An example of this implementation can be found here. for example: In case of an emergency or a power failure in pharmaceutical storage, where drugs need to be kept in a certain temperature, the Helios can turn a generator on to keep the air conditioner running to avoid spoiling of the drugs.

Helios can also be used for temperature monitoring

In Cyprus, for example, a company that distributes milk makes very creative use of Helios, and implements it for temperature-controlled distribution vehicles. The Helios continuously monitors the temperature in the vehicles, alerting in real time if the temperature drops below the permitted level.

An attractive method for tracking taxis for administrative purposes.

With the Helios unit connected to the passenger seats of a taxi, owners of taxi stands can monitor its fleet of taxis and disclose the number of trips each taxi transported per day and the amount of income that was made, allowing them to do a check and discover taxi drivers that are not reporting their journeys.
